Reproductive Freedom Fellow

NARAL Pro-Choice Washington seeks a reproductive freedom fellow to assist with all aspects of our electoral work during the 2017 campaign cycle.

NARAL Pro-Choice Washington is a grassroots, political advocacy organization that works across the state to advance reproductive freedom. With our 40,000 members, we work to elect pro-choice champions, pass pro-choice legislation, and mobilize our base to effect meaningful change. Our work seeks to advance the full spectrum of reproductive freedom which includes abortion, affordable contraception, safe and health pregnancies, and paid parental leave. Right now, key races are happening across the state at every level of government. From mayoral races, to county council, to the state Senate, we have the opportunity to support true champions running for office and demand a future that includes reproductive freedom for all people. We need Reproductive Freedom Fellows to join our team and get out the vote!

Position Description: Fellows will gain hands on campaign field experience through helping to run phone banks and canvasses, discussing Get Out the Vote strategies, creating scripts, managing data in NGP and VAN, training activists, and performing voter education and volunteer recruitment. This is a great position for anyone looking for experience in politics or campaigns. 
We are looking for individuals who can commit to 10 hours per week from October – December. The schedule can be flexible, including evenings and weekends. 

Responsibilities include:
  • Attending campaign phone banks and canvass days
  • Creating training and educational support for campaign efforts
  • Drafting scripts
  • Assisting with volunteers recruitment for phone banks, doorbelling and other election related activities
  • Maintaining an up to date volunteer and member database
Qualifications: Candidates should pssess strong oral and written communication skills, solid organizational skills and attention to detail, and sound political instincts. They must also have the ability to work independently, meet tight deadliens, and balance multiple projects at once. Some technical savvy/patience is preferred.

Compensation: This is an unpaid internship.

Communications Intern

NARAL Pro-Choice Washington is the state’s leading pro-choice advocacy organization. With Members all over the state, we are able to act fast to effect legislation. NARAL is seeking an enthusiastic, creative, and go-getting Communications Intern for the fall quarter. This internship is available exclusively to current students.
Description: This internship is an opportunity to work on a small but robust team of activists at a nonprofit based in Pioneer Square. Ten hours a week will be used to experience the many aspects of communications and marketing while working in a fast paced environment.
Responsibilities:
  • Assist in developing social media content (Facebook, Twitter)
  • Drafting action alerts, newsletters, and other forms of outreach
  • Prepare reports on engagement
  • Assist with special events promotions
  • Reports to Communications Coordinator
Commitments:
  • 8-10 hours a week
  • Attendance at Program Meeting Tuesday 10:30AM
Qualified Candidates will have:
  • A commitment to NARAL’s Pro-Choice mission
  • Excellent written and verbal communication, strong editing skills
  • Self-motivated, detail-oriented
  • Excellent computer skills with experience in social media & Microsoft Office
  • The ability to work independently and with others
  • Dependability, flexibility, and ability to maintain confidentiality
  • The ability to work well under pressure and meet deadlines
  • Proficiency in Photoshop, Illustrator, or InDesign preferred
  • Openness to learning and growing within the internship experience
